This is a pilot episode for an audio series exploring the art and culture of the southern United States. The show will skew toward living musicians, artists and writers in their own voices, along with dramatic recreations and actor readings of poetry, literature, and interviews. Consider this a representative example of the general soundscape of archival, found and original recordings an episode might contain.
The clip is split into two parts, each approx. 15:00
NOTE: my site audio player defaults clips to 1/2 volume-- adjust slider to raise levels. Though the audio is best experienced through earbuds/headphones.
Among the musicians, words and voices heard here, are: Andrei Codrescu, Sarah M. Broom, Walker Percy, Dr. John, Willie Dixon & Memphis Slim, Eudora Welty, Lucinda Williams, Allen Toussaint, Professor Longhair, Tennessee Williams (in conversation with Dick Cavett), Arturo Sandoval, Michael Ondaatje (channeling the world of Buddy Bolden), Bunk Johnson, and Sippie Wallace.
